Kate Flanagan is a Senior Fellow focusing on Consumer Lending. Ms. Flanagan is a veteran analytics expert, and brings to CFS an extensive background in the practical application of quantitative methods to all aspects of the consumer credit cycle. She is best known for her ability to embed mathematical techniques and discipline seamlessly into business processes.

In addition to her work with the CFS, Ms. Flanagan consults with major financial institutions and analytics organizations around the globe. Most recently, she upgraded the modeling and analytics software for a large European bank across their Western European markets.

For over 20 years, Ms. Flanagan was an executive at Citibank, working across various consumer business lines in 40 markets. During the financial crisis, she served as the Retail Bank’s senior expert on risk reporting structures, preparing the bank for greatly expanded regulatory reporting requirements. Prior to that, Ms. Flanagan was based in London, where she was Portfolio Management Head for EMEA Cards. She drove significant increases in per-account profitability across 20 EMEA markets and managed the Cards relationships with Risk and Technology. In collaboration with Risk, she helped to upgrade lending models in markets from Romania to Pakistan, and also drove implementation of enhanced analytical tools in both Russia and Sweden. In previous roles in Global Cards and LATAM Risk, Kate implemented scoring models and production analytics software across 30 markets, covering everything from credit origination to account retention. Her work in the Global Strategic Analytics Unit resulted in the origination of several strategic alliances and the signing of a global strategy software contract. Earlier roles involved model implementation in the mammoth US Cards business.

Her singular objective, in her various roles, was to achieve sustainable bottom line results through the use of enhanced analytics. Her success in these efforts was due to her ability to couple the technical software implementation with the hands-on “soft” work necessary to win the buy-in of line staff.

Ms. Flanagan holds a BA in Mathematics from Brown University and an MBA in Finance from Columbia University.
